Leeds United have been urged to snub a move for Harry Wilson and go 'all in' for Said Benrahma.
The Whites have been linked with both playmakers as they bid to bolster their squad for a return to the Premier League.
Both players are expected to be on the move this summer, with Brentford failing to earn promotion, whilst Wilson has returned to Liverpool after a season with Bournemouth.
The suitors for Benrahma, in particular, are lengthy, with Aston Villa and Chelsea both reported to be chasing the Algerian winger.
However, former Leeds striker Noel Whelan believes the club should park any interest in Wilson to ensure a deal for Benrahma gets over the line.
“If you are talking about number tens I would much rather see a Benrahma,” he told Football Insider.
“You have got to put your eggs in one basket and if Benrahma is the main target they have got to go all out to make that one happen.
“I would pick Benrahma over Wilson, absolutely. He is a better fit for Leeds United.
“We need to make sure that we get the right quality of players to make a difference in the Premier League.
“Benrahma does not have the experience but he is like Pablo Hernandez. If he is ticking, the whole team is ticking.
“He fits the mould perfectly for what Leeds are looking for – the style of play, the eye for a pass.
“He could be vitally important for us next season if we can get a deal over the line.”
