Leeds United urged to make move for Divock Origi as Liverpool striker hints at transfer

Leeds United have been urged to make a move for Liverpool striker Divock Origi.

The forward has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield this season after the arrival of Diogo Jota, making just seven appearances.

He has managed just two appearances in the Premier League, both of which came off the bench as he continues to struggle for game time in spite of Jota's latest injury.

Takumi Minamino started and scored in Liverpool's most recent fixture, the 7-0 demolition of Crystal Palace last weekend, further stressing Origi's expendability.

Speculation over his future at Anfield intensified this week when he removed references to Liverpool from his Twitter profile.

It has led to rumours that he could well be available in the January market and Noel Whelan is keen to see Leeds United make a move for him.

How will Bielsa improve defence without impacting attack?

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said Origi would provide perfect depth up front for the Whites should anything happen to first-choice forward Patrick Bamford.

He said: "I would like to see Leeds show a bit of intent in the January market and go and sign a striker who has experience in the Premier League.

"We need a player that will be complimentary to the side and Origi is the perfect fit.

"He comes from great stock at Liverpool. He likes to run in behind, he is a powerhouse, has pace, strength and aerial ability. We predominantly down those wide areas so he is ticking a lot of boxes for me.

"We only have one out and out striker in Patrick Bamford. God forbid he suffers an injury this season because then we are left very, very bare up top.

"We do not have that quality that is going to get those important goals. Tyler Roberts is not a recognised striker and he does not have the physical presence which is needed."
