Leeds United unlikely to renew Marseille striker Bamba Dieng interest in January transfer window

Leeds United are unlikely to renew their interest in Marseille striker Bamba Dieng when the January transfer window opens at the start of 2023.

The Whites were keen on landing the Senegalese forward on deadline day, with Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani seemingly confirming on Twitter the deal was done.

But a whirlwind turn of events saw Dieng opts to remain in France to sign with Nice instead. However, Dieng failed his medical with Nice, which ultimately meant he remains a Marseille player despite the transfer window interest surrounding the 22-year-old.

Leeds instead opted to sign promising Italian international striker Wilfried Gnonto from FC Zurich on deadline day in a move that is said to have cost the Whites around £4m for the 18-year-old.

And now it seems as though the Whites have no intention of going back in for Dieng when the January transfer window opens.

Transfer insider Jonathan Shrager claims Leeds have had no contact with Dieng's representatives over a move to Elland Road amid speculation they could go back in for him in the new year.

The Senegal international has been omitted from Marseille's Champions League squad and has yet to feature for the French side this season.

While there was talk he could sign for Nice through Ligue 1's 'joker' rule, which lets clubs sign one player outside of the transfer window, nothing has materialised on that front so far.
