Leeds United under-23s crowned Premier League 2 Division Two champions as promotion confirmed

Leeds United under-23s have been named Premier League 2 Division Two champions this evening, having avoided defeat against Aston Villa.

Mark Jackson's side knew a draw would be sufficient to confirm their promotion to PL2 Division One next season after Stoke City in second place could only muster a draw with Crystal Palace in midweek.

United's second-string have been in excellent form throughout this season, even going on a nine-match winning run at one point.

The team are unbeaten in 12 of their last 13 matches, the sole defeat coming in a game where Crysencio Summerville was sent off after 20 minutes.

It means Leeds will go up against Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and co in the premium under-23 division next campaign.

With that will come a step-up in quality, as well as the calibre of opponent on a weekly basis, but Leeds should be equal to it given their dominance in this their debut PL2 campaign.

The junior Whites are unbeaten at home throughout this league season, registering a staggering 10 wins and one draw at Thorp Arch.

Mark Jackson has used 41 different players, but maintained an extremely solid level of performance throughout the fixtures despite the routine upheaval of certain members of the 23s being needed in first-team training or matchday squads.

Joe Gelhardt has already scored 11 goals this season, while Sam Greenwood is not far behind on eight, despite playing predominantly in midfield.

The pairing have been a roaring success in attack, having both been signed for seven-figure fees last summer.

Leeds' under-23s recruitment drive has certainly paid off, as other additions Cody Drameh and Crysencio Summerville have been equally impressive in their respective positions.

The club as a whole have an incredibly talented crop of teenagers on their books, and it is now up to the powers that be to decide which of this supreme under-23s side will be ready for the step-up regular men's football brings, whether that be at Leeds or on loan elsewhere.
