Leeds United under-23 player ratings as Joe Gelhardt and Liam McCarron goals precede 4-3 collapse

Leeds United (4-1-4-1)

1 Elia Caprile - five

Difficult to get your score up when you’ve seen four put through you, although you could only apportion blame for one of them. Critical error made in giving away the penalty after seeming to give Nohan Kenneh a shout to leave the ball. May have done better at his near post with the third.

2 Cody Drameh - seven

Another solid outing for the new boy from Fulham. Always there to lend a hand in attack with the right winger and always there to make a tackle in the defensive half. Did get shrugged off quite easily in the run-up to the third goal.

6 Nohan Kenneh - six

Put in a series of superb tackles on Newcastle United’s main threat Elliot Anderson, but at the heart of the second and third concessions. Pulled out of a regulation header, allowing Caprile to fumble and give away a penalty on the second, but couldn’t avoid sliding the ball into his own net for the third.

5 Charlie Cresswell © - six

Quieter game than Kenneh. No glaring errors. Some tasty cross-field passes.

3 Niall Huggins - six

Won the first-half penalty to put the Whites 3-0 up. Much quieter after the break like they all were. Steady and unspectacular.

4 Jack Jenkins - five

Struggled to put his stamp on the match and looked swamped in the second half as he tried to offer some form of protection to the defence. A few poor first touches and misplaced passes drew apologies from him on the pitch.

7 Max Dean - six

Bright moments for the youngster, but caught offside too frequently and little say in the final third beyond a second-half shot spilt by the goalkeeper.

8 Stuart McKinstry - six

Playing in an unusual central role this afternoon. Did not look out place, though he did not put his stamp on the match at the heart of the pitch. Delicious assist for Liam McCarron’s second.

10 Joe Gelhardt - seven

Typified each half. Electric, typically unplayable in the first half with danger every time he got on the ball, but then an absolute passenger, anonymous in the second period.

11 Liam McCarron - eight

Took his goals very well and will be the happiest man on the coach home after missing several weeks through injury. Also got off the pitch before the collapse really took hold.

9 Bobby Kamwa - five

Very quiet. Biggest influence on the game was the argument he had with Gelhardt over who would take the penalty.

Substitutes

12 Dani van den Heuvel

14 Kris Moore

15 Cole Gibbon

16 Crysencio Summerville (on for McCarron 58min) - six

Some bright flashes, but end product was lacking besides one decent cross into Sam Greenwood.

17 Sam Greenwood (on for Kamwa h/t) - five

Not the impact he would have wanted on his comeback from injury. Fluffed his only chance and then got booked late on for butting heads with Yannick Toure unnecessarily.
