Leeds United U23s Premier League Cup quarter-final preview - team news, form, coverage details

Leeds United’s Under-23s can make it to the final four of the Premier League cup, but first they need to get past Burnley in this afternoon’s quarter-final.

Carlos Corberan’s side ran out 3-6 winners in a memorable encounter at the Barnfield Training Centre and he will be looking for something similar this time. This time he’ll be without Patrick Bamford, who scored a hat-trick as he was racing back to fitness in that December meeting.

Unlike several of the Under-23s’ well-attended matches so far, this one will be played behind closed doors at Burnley’s training complex.

When is the match?

Kick-off is at 14:30 this afternoon - so try clear your schedule. Being a knockout game, there’s every chance it will be decided in extra time or penalties and could run until after 17:00.

How to watch?

Corberan's side won the league earlier this week (Leeds United)

As usual, the official Leeds United app will be showing the match for free. That’s available on phones and tablets, while if you’re on desktop there’s a good chance that Leeds’ Twitter account will provide a stream of the first half only.

I’m stuck at work and can’t watch. How do I get updates?

Klich's resurgence, U23s success, missed chances - Marcelo Bielsa's pre-Millwall press conference in full

Recent form

Leeds go into the match on the run of six wins in their last eight games, including the 2-0 success at Colchester on Monday night which saw them claim the PDL North title.

The Clarets currently sit third in that table, 11 points behind Leeds, having played a game less. They have won two and lost two of their last four matches, including Monday's 3-2 defeat at Bristol City which opened the door for Leeds to claim the title in Essex.

Key men

Izzy Brown is likely to feature for this one again as he’s struggled to break through Marcelo Bielsa’s side, with it unknown whether he’ll make the bench for the Millwall match on Saturday. While he’ll have been disappointed not to play more senior football, he looks to have shaken off the injury that kept him out of action throughout 2018, and has been a key part of the U23’s league title win.

Ryan Edmondson scored a brace on Monday night as Leeds beat Colchester 2-0 and looked in a jubilant mood in the title celebrations after. The striker, still only 17, has been in fine form this season.

Hugo Diaz. The 22-year-old is one of the more experienced players in Corberan’s side, and he’s caught the eye with some nice threaded through-balls this season. The Spaniard joined Leeds from Deportivo La Coruña in 2017 and has become an important player for the youth side since, often captaining the side.
