Leeds United U21s' promotion push held back as West Bromwich Albion clash postponed

Leeds United U21s Premier League 2 Division 2 match against West Bromwich Albion U21s on Monday night has been postponed due to an "unplayable" surface at Hednesford Town’s Keys Park Stadium.

Following an earlier pitch inspection, the surface was ruled inadequate for the game to go ahead between Leeds and West Brom. The Whites currently sit top of the division, three points clear of second-place Nottingham Forest, chasing an automatic promotion spot.

Paco Gallardo, who has returned to U21 duty following his brief stint with the first-team alongside Chris Armas and Michael Skubala prior to Javi Gracia's arrival, has seen his side play with a free-flowing confidence of late. But the postponement to Monday's game will hand the chance to Leeds' rivals to put the pressure back on the Whites as they now wait until Sunday for their next game against Sunderland.

An official club statement read: "Leeds United Under-21s have been informed that Monday’s Premier League 2 Division 2 match against West Bromwich Albion has been postponed.

"The match was called off following a pitch inspection at Keys Park, with the surface deemed unplayable due to recent weather.

"A new date and time for the rearranged fixture will be announced on leedsunited.com when it has been confirmed."

The business end of the season is well and truly here for Gallardo's side as they have just four matches remaining to try and secure the title and therefore automatic promotion. Should they drop into second, they will have to play at least two further matches in a bid to move up a division for the 2023/24 season.
