Leeds United trio named in England Young Lions squad to face Scotland

Leeds United trio Sam Greenwood, Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Cresswell have been called up to the England Under-19 squad.

The Young Lions take on Scotland in a doubleheader at St George's Park on October 8 and 11 to kick off their new campaign.

The Whites signed Greenwood and Gelhardt from Arsenal and Wigan Athletic this summer, with both highly-rated prospects teaming up the United's Under-23s set-up.

Cresswell is called up to Ian Foster's squad for the first time after impressing in the Whites development matches, whilst Greenwood and Gelhardt both continue their international development after moving to Elland Road.

Leeds' young trio were all named as starters for the Whites' Under-23s on Friday to face Middlesbrough, with Greenwood firing home an 86th minute winner, his fifth goal of the season so far.

Gelhardt, however, limped off with an apparent foot injury halfway through the first half, which may put his place in the Young Lions squad in doubt.

Leeds target Haydon Roberts was also in the squad, with Brighton & Hove Albion turning down a bid of around 600K for the young defender earlier this summer.
