Leeds United transfer target Liam Lindsay also on the radar of Aston Villa

Leeds United have expressed an interest in signing young Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay, according to reports.

The Tykes centre-back has played a key role in his side's League One promotion push this campaign and his impressive performances have seen him linked with a number of Championship clubs, including Leeds.

However, if the Whites are to secure his signature, The Mirror reports that they will have to battle Aston Villa, Scottish giants Celtic and Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion.

Lindsay only moved south of the border in the summer, when Barnsley snapped up the defender for a fee of just £350,000 - but he could cost up to £5 million if he moves on again in 2019.

Leeds could possibly do with more centre-back options to back up first-team pairing Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper. Gaetano Berardi is an reliable understudy while Aapo Halme looks promising, but Marcelo Bielsa has been forced to play right-back Luke Ayling and midfielder Kalvin Phillips at the heart of his defence throughout the campaign as injuries have hit.
