Here is the Leeds United morning digest for Thursday, October 1.
Orta’s hero praises Leeds United structure
Leeds United have received praise from Sevilla Director of Football Monchi for their transfer structure, comparing it to Manchester United.
Victor Orta is a huge fan of Monchi, with the Sevilla transfer guru considered one of the best minds in world football.
And now Monchi has heaped praise on Leeds and their strategy to implement a Director of Football.
“This is my opinion – all clubs should have this position,” Monchi told The Telegraph.
“What is the main function? To dedicate the time to everything that relates on a sports level. Where 60-70 per cent of the budget is allocated to the first team, if you don’t have a specialist who deals with that, it is very difficult to understand.”
He added: “There are clubs like Leeds, Liverpool and [Manchester] City, amongst others, that are working with quite a well-developed sporting management structure.”
City injury list in full with key trio ruled out
Leeds United will be hoping to earn a third straight Premier League win this weekend as they face the intimidating task of Manchester City at Elland Road.
City will be desperate to bounce back from the humiliating 5-2 home defeat to Leicester City, while Leeds are on a high after back-to-back victories against Fulham and Sheffield United.
In the dugout, Pep Guardiola will go against his good friend and mentor Marcelo Bielsa, with both men desperate to earn three points for their team.
Leeds will be boosted by the news of three City players being ruled out of the trip, and you can read all the latest City injury news ahead of the game here .
Cuisance transfer presents a Leeds United conundrum
It’s been an exciting summer at Leeds United.
The Whites are back in the big time and didn’t hesitate to show their ambition with a string of new signings from across Europe.
The pick of the deals was Valencia forward Rodrigo. The Spanish forward moved to Elland Road for a club-record fee and represented the ambition backing Marcelo Bielsa’s project.
That may be eclipsed, however, if the club can secure Michaël Cuisance. The Bayern Munich starlet is reportedly close to joining Leeds and would boost Bielsa’s options in midfield.
It would, however, also provide a dilemma for Bielsa and Graham Ruthven has explained why.
