Leeds United transfer rumours: Whites target Gvardiol alternative as Bielsa offers update

Leeds United have just over two weeks left of this summer’s transfer window as Marcelo Bielsa looks to strengthen his squad before the deadline.

The Whites won their first Premier League match of the season yesterday afternoon - edging a seven-goal thriller 4-3 against fellow newly-promoted side Fulham.

Goals from Helder Costa (x2), Patrick Bamford and Mateusz Klich gave Leeds all three points against the Cottagers, but the game itself may have given Bielsa more of an indication of where his team does need to improve.

With that being said, here are Sunday morning’s Leeds-related transfer rumours from around Europe.

Leeds eye Gvardiol alternative as deal collapses

Leeds have been heavily linked with talented Croatian teenager Josko Gvardiol recently, but the deal has collapsed in the closing stages, according to reports.

The Whites had agreed a fee for Gvardiol, but the 18-year-old rejected a move to Elland Road as he wishes to stay at Dinamo Zagreb.

However, Manchester City starlet Tosin Adarabioyo has been identified as a potential replacement for the central defender.

Adarabioyo has rejected new contract offers to stay in Manchester, and City have admitted defeat in that respect.

Latest on Douglas’ future

Leeds’ Barry Douglas has been consistently linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer, but a deal is not imminent, according to The Athletic.

Douglas has been linked with a move to Celtic, with the former Wolves wing-back struggling to find game-time in Yorkshire.

Speaking on the Phil Hay Show, however, the Leeds journalist believes Douglas’ departure will not be imminent.

Hay said: “I haven’t heard him discussed as someone who might go. But it does feel like he’s on the fringes - given how reliable (Stuart) Dallas is and given that you then have (Ezgjan) Alioski below him.”

Bielsa provides transfer update

Leeds boss Bielsa has admitted there is “nothing concrete” in terms of incomings at the moment, but has explained how his side still hope to be active.

So far during the summer transfer window, Bielsa’s side have brought in six new signings - Rodrigo Moreno, Costa, Robin Koch, Illan Meslier, Joe Gelhardt and Jack Harrison.

With just 15 days left of this summer’s transfer window, the Whites appear to still be in the market for new players, something Bielsa hinted at.

Bielsa said in his post-Fulham press conference : “There is no concrete options at the moment. A lot of interest, but nothing concrete, so I would rather talk after they’re done.”
