Leeds United transfer rumours: Striker approach, two deadline day deals

The January transfer window came and went without much of a whisper for Leeds United.

Marcelo Bielsa traditionally does not like to conduct much business in the winter window. He likes a settled squad to persist throughout the entire season.

Add in almost £100 million of spending in the summer and it was never expected that Leeds would be busy this month. So it has proven.

Nevertheless, with the window now closed and focus turning to the remainder of the season, the rumour chill has continued to churn and there is much to reflect on.

Here is a round-up of the latest Leeds transfer rumours.

Was Raphinha a bargain according to Bielsa?

Swansea's Sam Greenwood stance

Swansea City are not pursuing a move for Sam Greenwood, sources tell our colleagues at Wales Online.

Earlier on Deadline Day, Sky Sports reported that Leeds had rejected a loan bid for Greenwood from Swansea after the teenager impressed for the development squad following his summer move from Arsenal.

However, Swansea sources have told Wales Online that Swansea are not targeting Greenwood, adding that Bielsa is reportedly keen to keep Greenwood at the club.

Greenwood has scored six goals in nine Premier League 2 goals and made his first-team debut in the FA Cup third-round defeat to Crawley.

Conor Shaughnessy joins Rochdale

Conor Shaughnessy left the club on Deadline Day, signing with League One Rochdale on a free transfer.

Shaughnessy made just 15 appearances in all competitions for the club following his arrival in 2016 and has had a series of loan moves with Heart of Midlothian, Mansfield Town and Burton Albion.

Now, however, the 24-year-old leaves Elland Rd for good.

"There were a few clubs interested, but I had a really good conversation with the manager here about the way he plays," Shaughnessy told Rochdale's website.

"I’ve watched a few games, seen the style of play, and it’s really attractive football to me.

"It suits me as a player and how I like to play, so it was quite an easy decision.

"I had the meeting with Brian which went really well. I met the staff, had a good chat, and since then it’s been getting things sorted with Leeds.

"I’m so excited to get started now. I can’t wait to get on the pitch, play regular football, meet the lads and get right into it."

Jay-Roy Grot exits

Leeds outcast Jay-Roy Grot has exited the club after falling out of favour once Marcelo Bielsa arrived in 2018.

In fact, Grot had been entirely exiled from the Leeds set-up this season and was largely expected to leave in the near future. He signed on a permanent basis with 2. Bundesliga side, VfL Osnabruck.

In a statement on the club's website, Leeds said: "Leeds United striker Jay-Roy Grot has today joined German 2. Bundesliga outfit VfL Osnabruck in a permanent transfer.

"Grot leaves the Whites having made a total of 23 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.

"We thank Jay-Roy for his efforts and wish him the best of luck for the future."
