Leeds United transfer rumours: Rodrigo De Paul breaks silence, Todd Cantwell stance regretted

We are a little over six weeks away from the January transfer window opening.

It means the Leeds United rumour mill will start to pick up speed as the Whites begin to line up moves for new transfer targets.

With that in mind, here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours.

De Paul breaks silence

Speaking to La Nacion (via TuttoSport), Leeds United target Rodrigo De Paul has broken his silence over his future at Udinese.

The attacking midfielder was wanted by the Whites in the summer but Udinese's asking price proved to be too much to meet.

Why Raphinha is ready to make an impact

Yet the Argentine says he does not know what the future holds for him due to his desire to play in the Champions League.

He said: “Here we have the things that make us happy. We don’t need much. This city has welcomed us from day one, we have become parents here. It sounds small, but the way the hospital in this city treated my wife and daughter is very important to me.

“These things create bonds that are difficult to break, it would be very difficult to find a comfortable place like this. I like challenges, I like to grow.

“I want to play the Champions League again, I want to play a World Cup. I prepare myself for this every day, then I don’t know what can happen in the future.”

Norwich regret Cantwell stance

Football Insider claim that Norwich City regret their hardline over Todd Cantwell's future.

Leeds were keen on Cantwell in the closing stages of the summer transfer window but failed to meet Norwich's £20m asking price.

That led the 22-year-old to stay at Carrow Road but he has endured a poor start to the season.

It has reportedly led to some in the Canaries hierarchy regretting their decision not to cash in on the youngster.

Phillips delighted Sunderland blocked move

Kevin Phillips has expressed his delight that Leeds United's move for Dan Neil was blocked by Sunderland.

Neil won praise from Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson for his performance in the EFL Trophy against Fleetwood Town in midweek.

It came after the Whites saw an approach to sign the 18-year-old knocked back in the summer - a decision that has been praised by Phillips.

He told Football Insider: “I have always said that Sunderland cannot afford to be letting their youngsters go. They have let far too many go over the last year, whatever the reason may be.

“The situation the country is in youth players is something that might have to be looked at. There will not be the money to go out there and buy like they have done.

“I think it is fantastic that Dan Neil took his chance and from what I gather there have been two or three other youngsters who really impressed early on in the season.

“From my sources, people that support Sunderland have been frustrated that they were not given an opportunity in the first team. The players are there.

“It is great to see Neil given an opportunity and also taking it as well. It is a really encouraging for the football club.”
