Leeds United transfer rumours: Michael Cuisance's Marcelo Bielsa claim, defender signs new deal

Leeds United will have to wait until January until they can again add to their squad, with the domestic transfer window now shut.

The Whites enjoyed a very busy summer in the market, bringing in a host of new players as Marcelo Bielsa looks for a strong finish in the Premier League this season.

At the moment, their attention will be firmly on the Wolves match on Monday evening, but there will definitely be half an eye on the January window.

Here are the latest Leeds-related transfer stories.

Cuisance makes Bielsa claim

Michael Cuisance has opened up on his failed move to Leeds during the summer transfer window.

Cuisance was close to moving to Elland Road before a failed medical halted the signing, and he later went on to join Marseille on loan.

Now, the Frenchman has opened up on the move that nearly happened, when speaking to RMC Sport (via Sport Witness): “I wasn’t afraid to work with Bielsa, but it didn’t happen with Leeds. I still don’t know why. It’s good, because it allowed me to be at Marseille today.

“The Champions League was an important element for me. I did the final eight with Bayern, it made me want to play it more. The fact that Marseille were in it made me want to do it.”

Berardi signs new deal

Leeds defender Gaetano Berardi has signed a new one-year contract at Elland Road.

The club have delivered on their promise to take care of Berardi following his serious ACL injury last season.

The Swiss defender signed for the Whites back in 2014, and under Bielsa, he has shifted from a full-back to a central defender.

Berardi is Leeds’ longest-serving player and will have the chance to play Premier League football with the club this season.

Rovers confirm Douglas deal

Barry Douglas has joined Blackburn Rovers on a season-long loan deal from Leeds.

After weeks of speculation over the Scot’s future, he has now moved to Ewood Park for the season where he will be playing Championship football once again.

Speaking to Rovers’ official website, Douglas seemed delighted with the move: “It’s exciting times and I’m really grateful to have a smile back on my face and be able to get back playing football again.

“I want to come and help the club achieve success. At this stage of my career, it’s about playing week-in, week-out, and hopefully help the team by playing my part.”
