Leeds United transfer rumours: Lucas Vazquez twist, Douglas Costa blow, Daniel James admission

Leeds United are back in Premier League action this weekend as they welcome Sheffield United to Elland Road on Saturday.

The Whites haven't played since March 19, with the two-week international break close to reaching its conclusion.

It has allowed the likes of Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta to turn their attention to the summer transfer window, with numerous squad members scattered around the globe.

With this being said, we take a look at the very latest Leeds-related transfer rumours and stories.

Vazquez talks to Modric over move

Reported Leeds target Lucas Vazquez has been discussing a possible move to the Premier League with his Real Madrid team-mate Luka Modric.

Vazquez - who is out of contract in the Spanish capital this summer - has been linked with a move to the Whites, as well as Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton.

According to Defensa Central, Modric has been helping the Spaniard make his decision, with the Croatia midfielder having previous experience with Spurs in the Premier League.

If this is true, then this could spell bad news for Leeds, with the ex-Spurs man surely waxing lyrical about his former club.

Leeds suffer potential Costa blow

According to Gremio boss Renato Portaluppi, reported Leeds target Douglas Costa is interested in a move to Brazil this summer.

The Whites have been linked with the Juventus winger, who is currently on loan at Bayern Munich, recently.

Costa has "shown interest" in a return to Gremio, the club he started his career at back in 2008, according to the Brazilian club's manager.

Portaluppi told Calciomercato: "I have spoken to Douglas Costa several times and he has shown interest.

"The interest is there, but there is also the economic part and that depends on the club."

James opens up on failed Leeds move

Daniel James has admitted Victor Orta was "very upset" when the Manchester United winger didn't move to Leeds back in 2019.

The Whites came close to bringing the Wales attacker to Elland Road almost two years ago, only for him to move to Old Trafford instead.

Speaking on the UTD Podcast series, James said: “I signed all the contract, did the interviews, picked my shirt number, did all the pictures and I thought it was done.

“I then was told it wasn’t done, there was one more piece of paper [that they were waiting for] from Swansea to Leeds for them to agree the deal of how it was going to happen.

“It got to one minute to 11 and I was like ‘what’s going on?’. They came in and Victor [Orta], the chief executive of Leeds came in and was very upset at what had happened.”
