Leeds United transfer rumours: Louie Sibley urged to consider Whites switch

Leeds United lost their third successive game in all competitions on Saturday to continue their poor start to the new year.

Marcelo Bielsa's side have shocked the Premier League at times with their expansive, high-intensity play, but despite spending almost £100million in the summer, the high-level quality required in the top tier of English football is sometimes missing.

With that in mind, we have updates on two potential targets who have recently been linked with a move to Elland Road, including one who is said to be keen to work with Bielsa.

We also have an update on a Leeds loanee who has been tipped for big things.

Here is a round-up of the latest Leeds transfer rumours.

Does no goals in three games worry Bielsa?

Louie Sibley 'would be tempted by Bielsa'

Former Derby County coach Kevin Phillips believes that Louie Sibley would be interested in a move to Leeds, especially as it would provide him with the opportunity to work with Bielsa, who is renowned for his development of young players.

The 19-year-old has impressed for Derby this season, making 16 Championship appearances in the process. He has been linked with a move to Leeds, and Phillips believes that a transfer would be exciting for the prospect.

"100 per cent," he told Football Insider when he was asked if he believes Sibley would consider a move to Leeds. "Louie would be tempted by the prospect of working under Marcelo Bielsa.

"If I was in his shoes, and I was getting linked with Leeds, and you see the way that they play and develop young players – I would consider it. I would certainly look at it.

"It will be very interesting to see what happens with this one in the summer."

Rodrigo de Paul latest

Inter Milan could reportedly sign Rodrigo de Paul this month if they are able to offload Christian Eriksen.

Bielsa was reportedly eager to add to his central midfield options in the summer window, with De Paul highlighted as a potential target. However, he was deemed too expensive and no transfer ever materialised.

And now Tuttosport via Inside Futbol reports that Inter could look to sign De Paul as a replacement for Eriksen this month, though it is likely that they will have to secure a permanent sale for the Dane.

Inter signed Eriksen this time last year from Spurs, but the midfielder has hardly been used by Antonio Conte and has been told he can leave. A loan seems more probable, which would likely delay any move for De Paul until the summer.

Edmondson embarks on Northampton loan

When speaking to Football Insider, Noel Whelan has tipped Ryan Edmondson for the very top ahead of the youngster's loan to Northampton.

Edmondson quit his loan with Aberdeen in search of more regular football, and Whelan believes that the 19-year-old's performances thus far prove that he is capable of competing at a higher level.

"Look, I mean it’s a step backwards when you look at the level, absolutely, because he was in the Scottish Premiership at a very good, competitive side in Aberdeen," he said. "The fact that he scored two goals and got two assists up there says to me that he can go on and do better at a bigger club.

"Right now, he’s got this [Northampton] opportunity and in my opinion, he probably will be playing week in, week out and I think he needs that.

"That’s something that he desperately needs and wants to have, that start in every single game, in the first XI, playing regularly, getting that confidence up in his own ability, but it’s up to him to make it work and to make it count.

"I do feel that he’s good enough to go up there and get goals, absolutely, and if he’s playing regularly then, if you give him the service, we’ve seen in the under-23s and his time up in Aberdeen, when he’s got the opportunity, he’ll put the ball in the back of the net."
