Leeds United transfer rumours: Jean-Kevin Augustin deal could collapse, Ben White update

Leeds United returned to Championship action with a disappointing defeat to Cardiff City on Sunday.

The Whites should still be feeling confident about their promotion hopes, though, being sat seven points clear of third.

With that in mind, they also continue to plot for the summer transfer window, whenever that may open.

Here are the latest rumours from Elland Road.

Toney warning issued

Darragh MacAnthony has warned that Ivan Toney will not be cheap just because Peterborough United's promotion efforts were foiled.

A huge number of clubs have been linked to the striker following an excellent season in League One that saw him net 26 goals in 39 appearances.

The Posh were only willing to sell Toney in January for a deal worth £12m that would also have seen the 24-year-old loaned back to London Road for the second half of the season.

Peterborough co-owner MacAnthony eventually promised to sell Toney if the club were not promoted - and, following the vote to decide League One by points per game, they eventually missed out on the play-offs.

Yet, with the likes of Leeds United interested, MacAnthony warned he will not sell the player cheaply.

When asked if reports of New York Red Bulls' bid of £4m were true, he said: "There is interest/bids, etc.

"Was to be expected. I will never confirm which clubs.

"As expected, because of what's been going on in the world, people think they can get discounts.

"Until they realise they can't."

Augustin deal could collapse

Noel Whelan has suggested that any deal to sign Jean-Kevin Augustin on a permanent deal for Leeds United could collapse due to medical issues.

The striker has managed just three appearances since joining on loan from RB Leipzig in January and sat out Sunday's defeat to Cardiff City with an injury.

Whelan says that persistent injuries could mean that Augustin would fail any potential medical.

He told Football Insider: "It’s troubling times for the young man and after working so hard to get back, there’s still that weakness in that area and it doesn’t look good.

"It doesn’t look good on a medical, put it that way.

"It is because it means it’s not healing properly, his body’s not healing the way it should do. I’ve had problems with hamstrings myself and it depends what sort of cut or tear you get.

"You’ve got to have people that are fully fit, you can’t have people who are getting injuries in the same place."

Ben White latest

The Athletic report that Leeds United are not confident over securing Ben White's future at Elland Road.

White has extended his loan from Brighton & Hove Albion until the end of the season following a fantastic campaign at Elland Road.

Yet the Whites' chances of securing another loan deal, or a permanent transfer, for the centre-back appear to be remote.

The defender's form for Leeds has alerted the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City to his potential, whilst Brighton could well include him in their first-team set-up next season.
