Leeds United transfer rumours: Jack Harrison update, Cameron Brannagan warning and Ben White boost

Leeds United's hopes of returning to the Premier League received a boost on Friday when it was confirmed by the EFL that they are still planning on finishing the season.

All professional football in England has been indefinitely suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.

A tentative return date of June 6 is what the EFL are claimed to be working to, but government action could see that date moved back.

But despite no games being played at the minute, that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from continuing with the latest transfer tittle-tattle.

With that in mind, here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours.

White boost

Leeds United could land star defender Ben White on a cheaper deal this summer from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 22-year-old has caught the eye during his debut Championship season, establishing himself as a fans' favourite at Elland Road.

Football Finance expert Kieran Maguire told the Telegraph: “In the market in the sort of mid-tier clubs I think there will be a decline in value so they may be able to get him for £4-5million less than they initially thought. Similarly, Brighton would be able to do exactly the same.

“I don’t think Leeds will be worse off as a result of the pandemic than before apart from the general hit they are going to have from the start of the lockdown to the end of the season.”

Mills unconvinced by Brannagan signing

Danny Mills believes his old club should be aiming for better than Cameron Brannagan.

The Whites, according to recent reports, have been scouting the former Liverpool man since February and are set to make their move this summer.

But Mills the club should be looking at more established players, especially if they are promoted to the Premier League.

“If they get into the Premier League they need to look a little bit higher,” he told Football Insider.

“Maybe this could be one for the future. Oxford are doing very well at the moment and look like they are going to get promoted from League One and he may want to stay there.”

“Is he going to go to Leeds and play every week? I do not see that scenario happening. I think he would be better staying another season at Oxford and playing week in week out.”

“The younger players are becoming a bit savvier and realising playing games is more important. One more year playing every week can get him a better move in 12 months’ time.”

Harrison update

Jack Harrison is almost at the end of his second consecutive year on loan with the Whites and most would agree he has improved no end.

Most Whites fans are hoping the winger will remain at Elland Road last season, especially if they are promoted to the Premier League.

And on whether there would be any chance the winger could seal a permanent move this summer, Manchester Evening News reporter Simon Bajkowski to Leeds Live: “Not if it was for the right price, although as just mentioned, who knows what state the transfer market will be in.

“Will around £8m in a few months be the same value as it was last season? Will Leeds be offering Premier League or Championship football?”

He continued: “If the player wants to go I think he will go with City’s blessing, but only for the right price.”
