Leeds United transfer rumours: Harry Wilson decision, Jordan Lukaku blow, Augustin 'obligation'

While Leeds United suffered defeat in their first Premier League fixture for 16 years, Marcelo Bielsa’s side showed enough in their 4-3 loss to defending champions Liverpool on Saturday to suggest they will be a tricky team to play this season.

Summer signings Robin Koch and Rodrigo Moreno were both involved at Anfield and Leeds United are widely believed to still be in the market for new additions. The transfer speculation certainly hasn’t stopped.

There are still three weeks until the transfer window closes for the summer, meaning there is still plenty time for the Elland Road outfit to get a deal or two over the line. The likes of Rodrigo de Paul, Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent have all been linked, but will any of them be a Leeds United player by October 6?

Here are three of today’s most note-worthy Leeds transfer stories.

Premier League new season in numbers

Lukaku blow

Leeds United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Jordan Lukaku, with the Belgian full back’s future at Lazio now believed to be much brighter.

According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Lazio head coach Simone Inzaghi now wants Lukaku to stay at the Stadio Olimpico for the 2020/21 season having previously told him he was free to leave this summer.

Lazio are in the market for a new left back, with SPAL’s Mohamed Fares believed to be their top target, but the Serie A side see him as potential competition for Lukaku rather than a replacement.

Lukaku is, however, out of contract at the end of the season and so Lazio might still be tempted to sell the Belgian international for the right price.

Bielsa decision on Wilson

Leeds United’s pursuit of Harry Wilson appears to be over after Marcelo Bielsa made it clear he did not want the Liverpool winger.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports the Elland Road outfit had started work on a deal for the 23-year-old only for the Argentine coach to decide that he 'wasn’t the right player for him'.

Wilson spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, scoring seven goals as the Cherries suffered relegation from the Premier League.

The Welshman has been linked with a number of clubs, with Leeds United previously to be among those interested in Wilson, but that interest has now ended.

Augustin update

RB Leipzig commercial sporting director Florian Scholz has expressed his anger over the Jean-Kevin Augustin situation.

Augustin signed for the Elland Road club on loan in the January transfer window, and was set to join Leeds permanently if they won promotion to the Premier League.

The Frenchman made just three appearances for the Whites, but there is now debate over Augustin's future.

Speaking to Sportsbuzzer, per HITC, Scholz accused Leeds of breaking a contract and claimed; "The legal situation is clear. Leeds is currently in the process of spending a lot of money on the transfer market, but does not stand by its contractual obligations. We are ready to take further steps."
