Leeds United transfer rumours: Daniel James stance, no Erick Pulgar, Barry Douglas claim

We’re into the final 12 days of the summer transfer window, and it could be crucially important that Leeds United get it right.

There have been six new players who have moved to Elland Road already this summer as Marcelo Bielsa’s side look to maintain their impressive performances at the start of the season.

After missing out on Ben White earlier in the summer, the Whites are still keen on bringing in another central defender into the club before October 5.

Here, we have gathered all of the latest Leeds-related transfer stories circulating from around Europe.

Serie A star won’t sign for Leeds

Fiorentina midfielder Erick Pulgar will not be signing for Leeds this summer despite reports of the club preparing a bid.

That’s what The Athletic are reporting, the 26-year-old was eyed as an alternative for Rodrigo De Paul.

The Udinese midfielder, De Paul, looked set to move to Elland Road but the Premier League side and the Serie A club failed to agree terms for the midfielder.

However, despite claims of Leeds preparing a €15m bid for Pulgar, a move for the highly-rated midfielder will not be happening this summer.

Man United stance on Leeds targe

Manchester United winger Daniel James will not leave the club this summer on a loan deal or a permanent one, according to Manchester Evening News.

The Welsh winger had been linked with Leeds in recent weeks, but it appears he will be staying put at Old Trafford for the rest of the season at least.

The Whites initially showed interest in James before he moved from Swansea City to United, but couldn’t strike a deal with the Welsh club.

The report states that Bielsa remains a “huge admirer” of James, but sources close to the player do not expect him to move on this summer.

Leeds defender could move to Celtic

Celtic may still be interested in signing Leeds defender Barry Douglas, according to Bhoys legend Frank McAvennie.

There have been reports of interest from Celtic for the out-of-favour Whites defender, and McAvennie has given an update on the situation.

“I’ve been told by sources about the boy at Leeds, Barry Douglas. Maybe something is happening with that in the background, I do not know. I do not know what the situation is but I have heard that he is a really good player,” McAvennie said to Football Insider.

“This boy Douglas is supposed to be good, so why not? I do not know what the transfer fee would be but with one year left on his contract, I am sure they could negotiate something. He is not playing so Leeds might want somebody paying his wages.”
