Leeds United transfer rumours: Blades eye Phillips, Adan George latest, ex-youngster signed

Leeds United will be looking to take another giant stride towards achieving promotion to the Premier League when they travel to the Riverside to face Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening.

The Whites moved five points clear of third-placed Fulham on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Reading at Elland Road thanks to a fine individual goal from Pablo Hernandez 12 minutes into the second half.

After Fulham had slipped up against Derby County on Friday evening, drawing 1-1, Leeds knew that an opportunity was there to try and open up a gap.

With Leeds now looking in a much stronger position to try and gain automatic promotion come the end of the season than they were just a couple of weeks ago, Marcelo Bielsa may be able to start putting plans in place for the summer transfer window.

With that in mind, here is a round-up of the day's very latest Leeds transfer news.

Blades line up Phillips bid

Leeds' Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United will plot a £20m bid for midfield star Kalvin Phillips this summer - if they manage to secure themselves European football for next season.

After promotion from the Championship last term, the Blades have excelled in their first season back in the top flight since 2007 and currently find themselves knocking on the door of the Champions League places.

Even though the Europa League seems a more likely destination for the Blades in terms of European competition, they are ready to add Phillips to Chris Wilder's squad.

The Sun is reporting that the Blades face stiff competition from fellow Premier League clubs for his signature but the ability to potentially offer Phillips European football could be a bonus in their hopes of trying to convince him to join the Bramall Lane club.

Whites eye promising Blues youngster

Leeds face competition from a collection of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, in the race to sign Birmingham City youngster Adan George, report TEAMtalk.

The 16-year-old has made great impressions for the Blues' academy this season and that has resulted in him being the target for a lot of clubs this summer.

The striker, who scored a hat-trick in the FA Youth Cup against Sunderland back in December, is out-of-contract at the end of the season, meaning he would be available if he didn't agree to signing a new deal at the St Andrew's Trillion Trophy Stadium.

But should he move to a new club over the summer, the club in question would be required to pay Birmingham a small compensation fee.

Former Leeds youngster snapped up

Former Leeds academy star Callum Nicell has found a new club, following his release by the Whites back in September, report HITC Sport.

Following his departure from Elland Road last year, the 20-year-old had trials with Premier League duo Leicester City and Sheffield United but didn't do enough to earn a permanent deal.

Now, though, Nicell has found a new club in the shape of non-league outfit Farsley Celtic FC.

The Republic of Ireland youth international joined the club on Friday.
