Leeds United transfer rumours: Battle with Newcastle United, Nicolas Gonzalez talks

There is just over a month to go until Leeds United play their first game back in the Premier League.

It means that time is running out for the Whites to sign players and integrate them into Marcelo Bielsa's squad in pre-season.

A host of names have already been linked with a move to join Leeds ahead of their long-awaited return to the Premier League, while some departures may also be on the cards.

With that in mind, here are the latest transfer reports and stories from around Elland Road.

Gallagher & Wilson battle

Newcastle United are looking to rival Leeds United for the services of Conor Gallagher and Harry Wilson, the Northern Echo states.

Chelsea midfielder Gallagher is in line for a Premier League loan after impressing with Swansea City last season and Leeds are among the clubs vying for his services.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's Wilson spent last season with Bournemouth and is expected to leave Anfield once again, either on a temporary or permanent basis, and Leeds are also keen.

However, Newcastle are ready to rival the Whites for both players in the transfer market

Nicolas Gonzalez talks

Leeds United have held talks with the entourage of Stuttgart striker Nicolas Gonzalez, according to CalcioMercato via Inside Futbol.

The Argentine excelled last season to help fire Stuttgart back to the Bundesliga and has attracted a wealth of interest as a result,

While Leeds face competition in the market from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan, the forward is said to be 'fascinated' by a move to Elland Road.

The Whites have held formal meetings with the player's entourage, the report adds.

Martinez interest cooled

Leeds United have cooled their interest in signing River Plate defender Lucas Martinez Quarta.

The Whites are among a host of clubs being linked with a move for the Argentine defender, although it was previously stated they were reluctant to meet his £18m asking price.

That release clause could have been a major factor behind the fact that El Instransigente are reporting that Leeds have cooled their interest.

River Plate are still looking to cash in on the 24-year-old, with their finances hit heavily by the coronavirus pandemic.
