Leeds United transfer rumours as Whites in race for 'world class' goalkeeper, Raphinha willing to wait for Barcelona

Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Wednesday, 18 May 2022.

Goalkeeper race

Leeds United and Newcastle United are both in the race to sign Trabzonspor goalkeeper and captain Ugurcan Cakir. That is according to former Turkish international Ali Kemal Denizci, who told radio station Radyospor that Leeds and the Magpies are lining up moves for a ‘world class goalkeeper’.

Cakir is keen on leaving Trabzonspor in the summer after helping them lift their first Turkish Super League title since 1984. Given his talent, any move in the upcoming window by the Whites will be reliant on the division they are playing in next season, with their Premier League status set to be decided one way or another this weekend.

Raphinha will wait for Barca

Leeds United winger Raphinha has hit heart set on a move to Barcelona this summer and is therefore willing to wait for them to submit an official offer. That is according to Spanish outlet Marca, who claim that Raphinha is not willing to negotiate with anyone else as he holds out for a move to the Camp Nou.

The likes of West Ham, Newcastle United and Liverpool have also been linked with the Brazilian but are unlikely to be able to sway his interest away from Barcelona. Raphinha seems destined to depart Elland Road this summer regardless of whether Leeds remain in the Premier League.

Casilla update

Spanish side Elche are unlikely to convert their loan move into a permanent one for Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla this summer. Casilla made the temporary switch to Elche almost 12 months ago but has struggled for game time after being dropped to the bench in October.

According to Diario Informacion, Casilla will instead return to Leeds, with Elche turning their attention elsewhere in a search for a new goalkeeper. His contract at Elland Road does not expire until 2023 but it appears as though his future at Leeds is over one way or another.
