Leeds United transfer rumours as Whites eye Man City prospect and Sander Berge update

Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Friday, 29 July.

Leeds ‘interested’ in Man City teenager

Manchester City will consider allowing James McAtee to head out on loan if clubs can guarantee the 19-year-old regular playing time, according to the Daily Mail.

Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, AFC Bournemouth and Villarreal have all shown a strong interest in the England U21 international. McAtee joined Man City’s youth system in 2013 and has played six times for the Citizens, including twice in the Premier League and once in the UEFA Champions League.

The teenager is a very bright prospect at the Etihad Stadium having scored 41 goals and contributed 27 assists in 85 matches for City’s U18 and U23 sides combined. He also scored a hat-trick in a 5-3 defeat at home to Club Brugge in the UEFA Youth League last season.

Heckingbottom’s stance on Berge

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom has reiterated his desire to retain Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge amid reported interest from Leeds United and Newcastle United.

It was reported last week that two Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in the 24-year-old but there have so far been no bids for Berge or any other Sheffield United players.

Despite this, there have been bids submitted for Berge before, all of which have fallen below the club’s valuation, while there is also a £35m release clause in his contract.

“We have had bids for Sander,” Heckingbottom explained via Yorkshire Live. “I have been open with Sander but I would always say no, whatever it was.

“However, the bids that came in for Sander were nowhere near the club’s valuation. Regardless of any release clause or anything, they were nowhere near, so it’s easy for me to say because in my opinion we don’t sell him no matter what.”

Berge joined Sheffield United from Genk for a club record fee in the region of £22m in January 2020, which was later surpassed by Rhian Brewster. He has played 66 times for the Blades, scoring eight goals and providing six assists across all competitions.

Ex-Leeds defender joins Rotherham

Former Leeds United right-back Lee Peltier has joined Rotherham United on a free transfer to become their eighth signing of the summer transfer window.

The Liverpool academy graduate was released by Middlesbrough this summer, after spending a solitary season at the Riverside Stadium. He counts the Millers as his 11th different club across a nomadic career spanning 18 years.

The 35-year-old joined Leeds from Leicester City when Neil Warnock was at the helm in August 2012. Peltier spent the best part of two seasons at Elland Road, aside from a short-term loan spell at Nottingham Forest during his final campaign.
