Leeds United transfer rumours as Whites chief Victor Orta confirms interest in Barcelona star

Here are your Leeds United transfer rumours and gossip on Thursday, March 30.

Victor Orta confirms Leeds United interest in Barcelona star Ilias Akhomach

Leeds United's sporting director Victor Orta has confirmed the club's interest in Barcelona youngster Ilias Akhomach after being linked with the 19-year-old in the January window.

Akhomach, who is out of contract in the summer, is being allowed by the La Liga leaders to leave on a free deal but is very in-demand with a whole host of clubs interested in the star.

However, having been one of the first linked with him, Orta is hoping to get there before anyone else and land what would be a fantastic deal for the Whites for the future.

"He is a footballer whose contract ends, and there are many teams in the race to get his services," Orta told Relevo (via 90Min ). "It’s going to be complicated.

"A player with so much talent, in such a special contractual situation, is going to be very difficult. We’ll see who gets him. He is a decisive player, a Spanish talent, trained in Barcelona that puts you in another echelon.

"But I do not know. He has earned the ability to choose his next sporting step and the one he chooses will surely be good for him, for his family and for his camp, that will surely help him make the right choice."

Manchester United escape route slams shut on Illan Meslier amid David de Gea contract talks

Illan Meslier's recent comments on his future with Leeds United has left his long term future at the club in doubt but one club he might not be able to convince to sign him is Manchester United.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano now claims that talks between the Red Devils and their starting goalkeeper David de Gea are 'optimistic', with United wanting to keep the star.

Of course Man United were one of the teams linked with Meslier, alongside fellow Premier League rivals Chelsea and Tottenham, but now that link seems to be closing off quickly.
