Leeds United transfer rumours as 'interest' claim in relegation rivals' defender

Here are your latest Leeds United transfer rumours for Wednesday, January 25.

Leeds show 'interest' in Everton defender Michael Keane

Leeds have shown an 'interest' in Everton defender Michael Keane during the January transfer window, according to talkSPORT.

However, Everton are reluctant to sell him to a Premier League rival, despite Keane featuring just once under Frank Lampard in the Premier League this term.

Southampton and West Ham have also been linked with the England centre-back, although it remains to be seen whether he will return to the fold at Goodison Park under Lampard's successor.

Keane joined Everton from Burnley in the summer of 2017 for a fee of £25 million in July 2017. The former Manchester United defender has scored 11 goals in 189 appearances for the Toffees, and also has 12 caps for England to his name.

He scored three goals in 32 appearances as Everton survived relegation last season, but has started just twice for them during the current campaign. Keane has played only 22 minutes in the Premier League this term, with his only starts coming in the EFL Cup.

Sunderland eye Gelhardt as part of a double attacking swoop

Sunderland are working on a deal to sign Joe Gelhardt on loan from Leeds United, and are also attempting to re-sign Ellis Simms from Everton, according to Football League World..

Simms was recalled from his season-long loan spell by Everton on New Year's Eve after scoring seven goals in 17 outings for Sunderland.

The Black Cats are trying to bring Simms back to the Stadium of Light for the second half of the season, but that hasn't stopped them looking to sign Gelhardt too.

Gelhardt was heavily linked with a return to his former club Wigan Athletic,. He joined the Latics' academy at the age of 10, and went onto score one goal in 21 appearances for them before leaving the DW Stadium for Leeds in 2020.

The report claims that Wigan have been unable to complete a loan deal for Gelhardt, due to a transfer embargo looming. This has opened the door for Sunderland, who are trying to get a deal over the line.

Leicester 'express an interest' in Jack Harrison

Leicester City have 'expressed an interest' in Leeds United winger Jack Harrison, according to the Daily Mail. The 26-year-old has long been sought after by Newcastle United, while Arsenal are also reportedly among his suitors.

And now it appears the Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has joined his growing list of admirers. However, Leeds are reluctant to listen to offers below £35m as he enters the final 18 months of his contract.

Newcastle had bids rejected by Leeds for Harrison back in the summer, while Arsenal have recently signed Leandro Trossard after being beaten to the signature of Mykhaylo Mudryk by Chelsea.

The report adds that the price tag may prove too steep for Leicester, who are exploring a number of options this month.

Harrison has scored one goal and provided seven assists in 19 appearances across all competitions for the Whites this term.
