Leeds United transfer rumours as former White explains summer transfer exit

Here are your latest Leeds United transfer rumours for Tuesday, September 7.

Ferdinand hypes up James

Rio Ferdinand believes Daniel James' move to Leeds United will be a huge success for both parties.

The Whites swooped with a blockbuster deadline day move after Manchester United deemed the Welshman surplus to requirements.

“They’ve been on him for ages, they’ve wanted this boy for time,” Ferdinand told Vibe with Five.

“Listen, Dan James, I don’t think he’s Man United standard, but he’s definitely Premier League standard and the way Leeds play, he’s going to be a problem for a few teams.

“The kid in that team it will be getting the ball and getting forward quick, and that suits his game. When you have to break down two banks of four like Man United that doesn’t suit James’ game, he likes space. But yeah, Leeds United for Dan James will be a fantastic move for both parties.”

Huggins explains Leeds exit

Former Leeds United youngster Niall Huggins has explained why he left the club this summer.

The versatile defender was allowed to move to Sunderland on a permanent basis despite impressing for the Under-23s.

“It was a great experience to be near that first-team level in the Premier League,” Huggins said ahead of Wales’ 2023 UEFA European U21 Championship qualifier in Bulgaria on Tuesday.

“But Leeds are looking to bring in lots of high-quality players from around the world and, opportunity-wise for me, it was going to be hard to breakthrough.

“The pathway just got a bit smaller for me and when I heard Sunderland were interested it was huge."

Mills delivers Helder Costa verdict

Danny Mills has admitted he'd be surprised to see Helder Costa feature for Leeds again.

The winger has struggled to impress since the Whites were promoted to the Premier League and a deadline day loan to Valencia was sanctioned.

“He’s done OK but you can’t look at it and say it has been a hugely successful time for him at Leeds United.

“On the basis of that, it works out for both. The club needed to move him on and he needed a new challenge. That’s what has happened.

“I would be very surprised, especially with the arrival of Dan James, if he was to come back and feature again for Leeds.”
