Leeds United transfer rumours as defensive target makes decision on January switch

Leeds United will be looking to return to winning ways against Burnley on Sunday afternoon after the 6-2 defeat against rivals Manchester United last time out.

Their opponents, unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches, are on a decent run of form and could prove a tough test with their no-nonsense and direct style of play.

Marcelo Bielsa will have decisions to make in defence for the match at Elland Road, with a number of first-choice options currently sidelined with injury leaving Diego Llorente as the only available natural centre-back.

The charismatic Argentinian boss will surely be looking to add depth to his squad next month, with the January transfer window now less than week away.

How will Bielsa improve defence without impacting attack?

Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours.

Linked Chelsea defender wants permanent move

Chelsea's Fikayo Tomori, who has been linked with a loan switch to Leeds in recent weeks, would prefer a permanent move away from the Blues according to The Athletic.

Frank Lampard is reportedly happy to send the 23-year-old away from Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis as he is still highly-rated despite making just three Premier League appearances this season.

However, Tomori has instead been backed to push for a permanent transfer as opposed to joining the long list of Chelsea's loan players.

Leeds, along with Ligue 1 outfit Rennes, are said to be tracking the player ahead of next month's window.

Bielsa told to seal Forshaw exit

Former Rangers and Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish has urged Bielsa to ensure that Adam Forshaw leaves the club in January.

The midfielder has not been considered for selection in the Premier League this season and seems unlikely to force his way back into the Leeds side.

The club gave the green light for a loan move in order to build up his fitness earlier this month.

“No doubt about it, Adam should get out there and see if he can find his mojo again and the quality that he showed before these injuries that have blighted his career," McLeish told Football Insider.

Failed Haaland pursuit detailed

Well-respected journalist Phil Hay has revealed how Leeds gave Borussia Dortmund star Erling Braut Haaland a tour of Elland Road prior to his move to Red Bull Salzburg in 2019.

Hay's report for The Athletic claimed that the young forward came close to signing for the Whites, but their offer was bettered significantly by Salzburg, which turned out to be a fantastic move for the 20-year-old.

He established himself as one of the best prospects in world football before sealing a switch to Dortmund, where he has continued to provide regular goals.

The Bundesliga outfit have now slapped a £110m price tag on their man amid reported interest from Manchester United.
