Leeds United transfer rumours: £50m plans, Arsenal keeper wanted, Yohou boost

It’s a big summer for Leeds United, with a potential return to the Premier League on the horizon, it could mean a busy period for Marcelo Bielsa.

When teams are promoted to the Premier League, there tends to be a mass amount of additions to the squad in order to create some much-needed squad depth.

However, with the coronavirus pandemic causing a massive drop in market value, teams will be unlikely to spend as much in the summer.

It looks like Leeds are still looking around for potential bargains, though, and here are the very latest transfer rumours.

Beren Cross' Leeds United Q&A ahead of Cardiff vs Leeds

Yohou release explained

Reported Leeds target Samuel Yohou was recently released by French club Paris FC and sporting director Federic Hebert has explained the club’s decision.

The 28-year-old defender is reportedly on Leeds’ radar and he is now without a club, theoretically simplifying the deal for the Whites.

Hebert said: “We made the choice to separate from him simply to leave him with other options.”

The Whites are looking at central defenders with Ben White expected to return to Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion once his loan spell is up at Elland Road.

Martinez move eyed

Leeds are eyeing a move for Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in the summer, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

Martinez is currently second-choice to Bernd Leno at the Emirates Stadium but actually came on for the German goalkeeper, after he suffered a serious-looking injury in their 2-1 defeat to Brighton.

Hay said this in a Q&A: “If Casilla goes, then they’ll need to think about another ‘keeper. One who’s been mentioned to me is Emiliano Martinez at Arsenal.”

Martinez spent time at Reading on loan recently and impressed between the posts for the Royals.

Whites braced for £50m spend

Leeds are set to seal “a flurry” of new additions once the transfer window opens in the summer, according to Football Insider.

If Bielsa’s side are promoted to the Premier League, the hierarchy at the club are willing to spend £50m on signings, according to the report.

As soon as the window opens, Leeds will push forward to secure some new signings in time for next season.

Earlier in the week, UEFA have advised that the summer’s transfer window does not end any later than October 5.
