Leeds United transfer round-up: Loan bid made for Chelsea midfielder, fee agreed for goalkeeper

After splashing out over £100million last year, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa feels his squad just needs tweaking this summer.

Director of football Victor Orta has ticked off the top priority on his to-do list by signing Junior Firpo from Barcelona for £13million to land Bielsa the recognised left-back he wanted.

Orta has also made Jack Harrison’s stay at Elland Road permanent for a bargain £11million after three seasons on loan and snapped up teenagers Sean McGurk, Amari Miller and Lewis Bate.

Leeds still want a goalkeeper to replace Kiko Casilla, a central midfielder and a winger.

Here Mirror Football looks at the latest transfer news...

Leeds want Chelsea midfielder on loan

Leeds are vying with Crystal Palace to sign Conor Gallagher on loan from Chelsea.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is prepared to let Gallagher go out on loan for a fourth time to continue the midfielder’s development and this has alerted Leeds and Palace.

Leeds were impressed by the midfielder’s performances last season with West Brom during his debut campaign in the Premier League and the 21-year-old made 30 top-flight appearances.

He performed admirably during a difficult season for the Baggies, which ended in relegation back to the Championship.

Leeds have already done business with Chelsea this week and they signed 18-year-old midfielder Lewis Bate for £1.2million on Thursday.

Leeds agree fee for goalkeeper

Victor Orta is a big fan of Kristoffer Klaesson (PA)

Leeds have agreed a £1.6million fee with Valerenga for Norway Under-21 goalkeeper Kristofffer Klaesson.

Orta has been tracking Klaesson’s rise for two years and has struck a deal with the Oslo club after also assessing Newcastle ’s Freddie Woodman and Levante’s Dani Cardenas.

Klaesson, 20, is due to fly to England next week to have his medical and finalise personal terms.

Leeds will then need to obtain a work permit before Klaesson can complete his move to Elland Road.

Orta first considered signing Klaesson in 2019 before he brought in Illan Meslier and he is a big fan of the Norwegian.

Klaesson will replace Kiko Casilla and Leeds hope he will also challenge Meslier for the No 1 spot.

Leeds play waiting game in winger hunt

Leeds are prepared to wait until the transfer window closes to land the winger they want.

Orta is working on signing another wide player, even though Bielsa says he would happily go into the new season with Raphinha, Harrison and Helder Costa.

Orta has identified Club Brugge’s Dutchman Noa Lang and the Belgian club are loathe to lose him.

Leeds have a long-standing interest in Daniel James - they came within minutes of landing him in 2019 - and would be keen to sign him on loan if Manchester United felt they no longer needed him because of Jadon Sancho’s arrival.

Leeds are also keeping a watching brief on Rangers’ Ryan Kent and he is also someone Bielsa has liked for a long time.
