Leeds United transfer links to winger Alberth Elis reemerge as Premier League rivals join fray

Leeds United and West Ham United have been mooted as potential destinations for Bordeaux's Alberth Elis, according to reports in the winger's native Honduras. Elis' name first emerged in connection with the Jesse Marsch's side earlier this summer and the player previously stated that his ‘dream has always been to play in the English league’.

Diario Diez claim that the French side have received a number of offers for the 26-year-old, with Bordeaux seemingly 'in no hurry to sell' despite their relegation to the third tier due to their financial issues.

The Honduran international arrived in Europe via Portuguese side Boavista in 2020 after scoring 35 goals in 101 matches for Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo. It was his exploits in the MLS that first alerted Leeds boss Jesse Marsch to Elis.

He spent the 2021-22 campaign on-loan at French Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux but his record of nine goals was unable to prevent them from finishing rock bottom. Bordeaux activated the option-to-buy clause in his loan deal at the start of June but their relegation has left his future in doubt.

In an interview with Honduran media outlet Diario Diez, Elis revealed: “I will travel to join Bordeaux. I have a contract with them and I must present myself. Later it will be known what will happen in the following months.”
