Leeds United transfer boost as Brentford make Ollie Watkins decision

Brentford may have opened the door for Leeds United to make a swoop to land Ollie Watkins before the start of the Premier League season on September 12.

The Whites are rivalling the likes of Aston Villa and Crystal Palace in the hunt for the forward, who is expected to leave following the Bees' defeat in the Championship playoff final to Fulham.

Having netted 26 goals in the Championship last term, Watkins is one of the most highly-rated strikers outside of the Premier League and his opportunity in the top-flight may be right around the corner.

talkSPORT reports that Brentford have agreed a £10m fee for Peterborough United forward Ivan Toney, who is set to be Watkins' replacement in west London.

The Bees will pay £6.5m up front for the former Newcastle United man, with the rest being paid in bonuses, and his arrival could open the door for Watkins to leave.

Brentford face a stern battle to retain the services of their key players this summer following their failure to clinch promotion to the Premier League, with Said Benrahma also expected to be on the way out.

Leeds have also expressed an interest in signing the Algeria international, though once again they will encounter fierce competition in the market from their Premier League rivals.
