Leeds United told to resort to damage limitation mode amid fragile defensive record

Danny Mills says he cannot understand why Leeds United haven't resorted to damage limitation mode during their recent thrashings against Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

Leeds have leaked 11 goals in their last two matches, and have now conceded more goals than any other Premier League club (60).

Eight of those goals have been conceded in the second half, and Mills believes Leeds must learn to shut up shop when trailing in games to protect their fragile goal difference.

"The goal difference could be absolutely vital. It's an extra point, is what it possibly comes down to. I know that's immaterial of what the fans think of effort and everything else, but suddenly they have, they've lost that extra point," Mills told talkSPORT.

"It now looks like it's going to be between the bottom five, and it's so close. If Everton were to pick up a win, and even Leeds pick up a draw, the goal difference is going to be pretty much the same, and that drags them right back into it.

"I can't understand, when you get to three, you go, right that's it, no more. We don't concede anymore, we sit back, you don't accept defeat, but you have to say we're not going to concede any more goals, if that's at the expense of us not scoring."
