Leeds United told to make January move for Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori happen

Nigel Martyn has urged Leeds United to make a move for Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori.

The 23-year-old's development at Chelsea has stalled after dropping down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Brazil star Thiago Silva.

Tomori has made just three appearances this season after being a semi-regular last year and making his England debut.

There was plenty of speculation over his future in the summer, with the likes of Newcastle United linked with a loan move for him.

West Ham agreed a deal to take the Canadian-born youngster on loan on transfer deadline day in October.

Yet Tomori rejected the chance to move to the Hammers, revealing recently he opted to stay as he felt he could get game time at Stamford Bridge.

That game time has not materialised, and Tomori has once again been linked with a loan move.

With the Whites suffering from injury troubles in defence and conceding six against Manchester United, former goalkeeper Martyn argued that Tomori should be targeted.

He told The Boot Room: "If you can get a Chelsea player, they obviously don’t think he is rubbish.

"Depending on the injuries Leeds need bodies and better the quality – the better it is. If there’s a chance, go and get him.

"You’ve got to stop those goals."

Yet the Whites' chances of signing Tomori look slim.

TalkSPORT have reported that the centre-back is set to move on loan to French side Rennes until the end of the season.

Chelsea have developed a good rapport with Rennes after they signed goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from the Ligue 1 club in the summer.

It means Tomori may well now move overseas for first-team football.
