Leeds United could “blow Rangers out of the water” in regards to the wages they could offer Ryan Kent, according to former striker Kris Boyd.
Kent has been linked with a move to Elland Road recently, as Marcelo Bielsa looks to strengthen his squad ahead of their first season back in the Premier League.
The winger moved to Ibrox on loan initially in 2018/19, before making the permanent switch from Liverpool last summer.
The 23-year-old has started the Scottish Premiership season very well - scoring twice in four league matches for Steven Gerrard’s side.
And Boyd, who had two separate spells at Ibrox as a player, believes the money Leeds could offer Kent may tempt him to leave Rangers.
“When the English Premier League comes calling, it is hard to ignore. It is where most footballers eventually want to be playing,” Boyd told the Scottish press.
“There is also the small matter that Leeds can blow Rangers out of the water when it comes to wages. They will be able to offer Kent up to four times what he is earning in Scotland.
“Whether the young man has a say in his future, we will find out in the next couple of weeks. But with proven match-winners in big games few and far between, his exit would have dire consequences for Rangers and Gerrard.”
Gerrard told BBC Sport on Friday that Leeds had been in contact with Rangers regarding Kent, but the Scottish club insisted he was not for sale.
"The message is hands-off - Ryan is a player we want to keep hold of," he said
"Yes, we've had contact from Leeds. An opening bid has been strongly rejected. They are way, way off with that opening bid. That's the truth and the reality. He's a player who is not for sale."
The Rangers boss continued with a second message to Leeds over the player’s future, by saying: “We want the player to see here, as do the board.
"The fans love him also and Leeds will need to respect that, they need to really think hard if they want to come in again. I have spoken to Ryan and he is totally focused on the match tomorrow.”
