Leeds United to receive guard of honour from Derby County after being confirmed champions

Leeds United are Sky Bet Championship champions.

After being handed promotion on Friday night, it's now double delight for Marcelo Bielsa's men who were today crowned champions after third-place Brentford slipped up against strugglers Stoke City.

Celebrations will now continue into this evening ahead of Sunday's clash with Derby County, which brings us to the news Leeds fans will take particular delight in.

The big 'C' next to Leeds' name means Derby will now have to give Bielsa's men a guard of honour at Pride Park ahead of tomorrow's 2pm kick-off.

That will no doubt cause Derby fans to grit their teeth with the two clubs being old rivals.

The rivalry was intensified last least when Leeds lost to the Rams in the Championship semi-final, blowing a two-goal lead at home in the second leg.

Scenes of the Derby players celebrating on the Elland Road pitch after the game will be etched on Leeds fans' memories.

But perhaps not for much longer. Seeing the Rams stars give their worthy champions a guard of honour at Pride Park on Sunday will no doubt serve as a cure for Whites fans and something to treasure for some time as they head towards their first Premier League season for 16 years.

Of course, the guard of honour is not compulsory but Derby will almost certainly carry out the time-honoured tradition.
