Leeds United have been drawn to face League One side Shrewsbury Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup. The clash will be take place at Elland Road with all first round ties scheduled to take place the week commencing August 7.
The clash is a repeat of the 2012 tie that saw Leeds win 4-0 over the Shrews at Elland Road. Luciano Becchio, Luke Varney, David Norris and Ross McCormack bagged the goals for United that day.
The Whites weren’t due to enter the competition at this stage following their relegation from the Premier League, but West Ham United’s qualification for the Europa League has forced a reshuffle that saw Leeds moved into the first round draw.
Leeds reached the third round of the competition last season, but their hopes of a trip to Wembley in the Carabao Cup were ended as Wolves edged out a weakened side. While Championship promotion is the obvious priority this season, fans would no doubt love to see their side enjoy a cup run as well.

The draw comes just hours after the Whites’ Championship schedule for the new season was unveiled, with United set to host Cardiff City on August 6, and the tie will be nestled in between that fixture and Leeds’ first away trip of the season to Birmingham City.
