Leeds United tipped to complete January transfer for Udinese star Rodrigo De Paul

Leeds United have emerged as the bookies' favourites to complete the signing of Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul in the January transfer window.

De Paul was heavily linked with a move to the Whites throughout the summer window, and chief executive Angus Kinnear revealed that the Argentine midfielder wanted to move to Elland Road.

Kinnear said: “It’s an odd one, because it’s an odd way to do that. To be fair, we knew at that stage that he had an interest, but all other elements of the deal didn’t work, so we’d kind of written it off.

“So, it wasn’t a surprise, but it’s odd for a player to declare his interest without having some degree of surety that something is going to happen.”

Now, Sky Bet have declared Elland Road as his next probable destination, with Leeds being listed as 5/1 favourites to land the 26-year-old.

That's ahead of Serie A duo Juventus and Inter Milan - who have also been linked with a move for the Udinese midfielder - with both Italian clubs listed at 10/1 to sign him.

De Paul was valued at €40million (£36m) by the Serie A side in the summer, but recent reports have suggested that his current club have lowered their asking price to €35m (£31.5m).

The Argentina international has also dropped a hint recently that he wants to stay put with Udinese for the time being at least.

Cited by Italian news outlet Calciomercato, De Paul said: "I know Udinese is not PSG, but why change? It's hard to find a more comfortable place than this."

So far this season, De Paul has played 12 times in the Italian top-flight, and in that time, he has managed to score three goals and provide two assists for his team-mates.
