Leeds United team news confirmed as Marcelo Bielsa names two rumoured absentees at Newcastle

Leeds United were victors at St James' Park earlier this year, with goals courtesy of Raphinha and Jack Harrison sealing a valuable three points.

This time around, Marcelo Bielsa has named Raphinha in his starting line-up yet again, although Jack Harrison misses out, despite rumours that both would be absent.

Patrick Bamford was also rumoured to be unavailable during the week, until Bielsa confirmed there was no issue with the England forward in his pre-match press conference yesterday.

During his 45-minute briefing with journalists at Thorp Arch, Bielsa also threw his support behind duo Pascal Struijk and Rodrigo Moreno.

The former is suspended for tonight's fixture, having picked up a red card in last weekend's 3-0 defeat at home to Liverpool.

Rodrigo - who was substituted at half-time in that match - makes the starting XI once more tonight, despite his selection being a particular issue of contention amongst supporters.

Alongside Rodrigo, Bamford, Raphinha and full debutant James make up the attacking quartet Leeds fans hope can click into gear at St James' Park.

In defence, Bielsa has made the expected changes due to Struijk's suspension and his inability to call on Diego Llorente or Robin Koch.

The pair are currently sidelined through injury, leaving Luke Ayling to fill in at centre-back alongside captain Liam Cooper, while Kalvin Phillips drops into a third centre-back role.

Consequently, Ayling has vacated his usual right-back spot, with Stuart Dallas filling in on that side amidst the second line of Bielsa's 3-3-3-1-3 formation.

Steve Bruce's Newcastle side are without their talisman and No. 9 Callum Wilson, however injury doubt Joe Willock does make the starting XI for the hosts.

Danger-man Allan Saint-Maximin will lead the Magpies' attack from the start, having only made a 30-minute appearance in this fixture last time out.

Confirmed Leeds United XI: Meslier, Ayling, Phillips, Cooper, Dallas, Klich, Firpo, Rodrigo, Raphinha, James, Bamford
