Leeds United target Celtic 'next Kieran Tierney'

Leeds United are believed to be interested in a move for Celtic kid Matthew Anderson, a former Blantyre Soccer Academy player who was last year dubbed 'the next Kieran Tierney'.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that the English Premier League side are keen on the 17-year-old left-back, who in January 2020 signed a professional deal with the Parkhead club last year and has been playing in their under-18s before they were forced into furlough after the Covid-19 outbreak.

Anderson has represented Scotland at under-16 level and played in the Victory Shield.

Last year we reported on Anderson's move to Celtic, with Blantyre Soccer Academy coach Jimmy Whelan saying he was the real deal.

He told us in January 2020: "It's fantastic for us as a club, and it's great to see Matthew doing so well.

“For us as a club, we’re in our 10th year and it has been fantastic to see boys like that progress.

“I know Matthew personally, I’ve known him since he was four, so it is fantastic to see him sign for Celtic.

“He really is one to watch, he is the real deal, and could be like Kieran Tierney.”
