Leeds United supporters send simple two-word message to transfer-linked Rodrigo as apology made

Whites fans have implored Rodrigo to extend his stay at the club despite their drop into the second tier after he offered an apology for their awful 2022/23 season.

Leeds United’s relegation to the Championship was confirmed on the final day of the Premier League season with their home defeat to Tottenham Hotspurs meaningless in the face of Everton’s victory over Bournemouth.

Rodrigo extended an olive branch to the Elland Road faithful after their fate was sealed, writing on Instagram on Monday: “I can’t find the words to describe yesterday’s feeling. I just can say SORRY to all Leeds fans. For sure you deserve much better from us.”

Fans responded positively to the Spanish international’s post on the whole. Frazer Starkey replied: “Best player this season.. if everyone had your passion then maybe it could [have] been different.”

Colin Tull said: “That’s ok. You’re gonna score 40 in the championship next year,” while Korm added: “I’ve seen some major passion from you this season. Pushing when everyone’s legs stopped. Thank you for what you’ve done.”

Kate wrote: “Aww Rodders we all love you, you fight for us every game, [you’re] passionate and are proud to [wear] the shirt. We would love you to stay and get us back up next season. MOT”

Multiple users meanwhile sent a simple two-word message of hope to Rodrigo: “Play stay.” Rodrigo has been linked with a move away this summer, with Aston Villa claimed to be among the sides weighing up a move for the 13-goal forward.

The 32 year old is one of four players who is up for our Leeds United player of the season award, alongside Tyler Adams, Wilfried Gnonto and Max Wober.
