Leeds United stunned, Nottingham Forest miss their chance - Championship final day simulated

The final day of second-tier action may not have gone ahead as planned today, but thanks to Football Manager and a simulation by Sky Sports, we can get a glimpse of what the final day might have looked like.

Though, Leeds United fans might want to cover one eye.

Heading into the final day, Marcelo Bielsa's men were two points clear of nearest challengers West Brom, according to the simulation.

But on the final day, they allowed the title to slip from their grasp with a dramatic defeat to strugglers Charlton.

Leeds would fall to a 3-1 defeat to the Addicks after having not one, but two men sent off with Helder Costa and Luke Ayling both sent for early baths, opening the door for the Baggies to take the Championship crown.

Rekeem Harper helped Slaven Bilic's men cross the line, beating QPR 1-0.

It wasn't all doom and gloom for Leeds, though.

They ended their long wait for a return to the Premier League thanks to a favour from Nottingham Forest.

Sabri Lamouchi's men failed to take advantage of Leeds' final day slip-up, missing a late penalty to draw 0-0 with Stoke and finishing one point and six goals short.

Forest would be joined in the play-offs by Brentford, Fulham and Bristol City.

The latter crept in two points ahead of Blackburn Rovers thanks to a 2-1 win over Preston.

The action was just as exciting at the bottom with three teams finishing on 49 points.

Wigan would eventually suffer relegation, joining Luton and Barnsley after drawing 2-2 with Fulham, despite taking the lead twice.

Middlesbrough did enough to dodge the drop by a matter of goal difference after drawing 0-0 away to Sheffield Wednesday.

Charlton also finished six goals clear despite starting the day in the drop zone with that dramatic win over Leeds.
