Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford drops Harry Kane opinion in England vs Germany pundit role

Leeds United's Patrick Bamford has given his opinion on England striker Harry Kane in a punditry role on US broadcaster CBS Sports.

Bamford gave his thoughts ahead of England versus Germany in the Round of 16 at UEFA EURO 2020, following his snub to be included in Gareth Southgate's final 26-man squad for the Championships.

The Leeds man scored 17 goals in the Premier League last season, more than every other Englishman except national side captain Harry Kane.

Speaking prior to kick-off Bamford had some thoughts on England's tactics, and how the team could help Harry Kane rediscover his goalscoring form after the Spurs man fired blanks in England's three Group D matches.

"With England he could probably stay a bit closer to the goal," Bamford said.

"We've got so many good players, it's their job to put the ball on a plate," he opined.

This is an interesting stance from the Leeds man, who knows a thing or two about making goalscoring chances for himself, as well as converting those created by his teammates.

Kane struggled to impact the game inside the opening 20 minutes of England's clash against the Germans - a team populated by a handful of Premier League stars.

Chelsea trio Antonio Rudiger, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz all started for the away side.

After Bamford's snub for the squad earlier this year, the 27-year-old had his say, but failed to call into question Southgate's decision to leave him out.

“At the start of the season if they had mentioned my name in connection with England, I’d have thought that’s a bit crazy thinking,” he said.

“To say I’ve come this far and be kind of getting mentioned and Southgate says I’m close to it is a dream, it’s unreal to play for England.

“It’s just one of those things now because I’m so close, I want to keep working and put my name in the picture for every time there is an international call-up.

“If I do get called up, brilliant, and if I don’t, I’ll just keep working hard and see what happens.”
