Leeds United striker Mallik Wilks' assault trial delayed by courts

Leeds United frontman Mallik Wilks will not go on trial in July after the courts delayed the hearing.

Wilks was charged with violent disorder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in an alleged attack at Leeds West Indian Carnival in Chapeltown in August 2017.

The footballer pleaded not guilty to both charges in November last year. As a result Wilks was due to stand trial on July 1 and was granted unconditional bail. He spent all of last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers.

Leeds Crown Court has now confirmed that the trial has been delayed until May 11 next year.

Leeds United issued a statement in last October after Wilks' previous court appearance.

It read: "Leeds United are aware of the criminal charges received by Mallik Wilks following an incident which occurred in August 2017.

"Mallik has vehemently and consistently maintained his innocence and has pleaded not guilty to those charges.

"The club will monitor the progress of the case before making further comment.

"Wilks is currently on loan at Doncaster Rovers where he will remain until the agreement expires."
