Leeds United STILL favourites to sign Swansea City's Daniel James despite promotion wobble

Leeds United are still favourites to sign Swansea City starlet Daniel James this summer, despite their recent poor form.

The Whites have lost their last two games, denting their hopes of automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.

However, bookmakers are offering odds of 4/1 for James to sign for the Yorkshire club in the summer transfer window.

Marcelo Bielsa was set to bring the speedster to Elland Road in January, only for Swansea to veto the switch in the final hour of the window.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek explains: “Leeds came so close the signing the Welsh speedster in January, and will be hoping that his eye-catching form since doesn’t price them out of a move.

“We thought we may see a shift in the odds with Leeds appearing to capitulate, but they remain clear frontrunners to sign the highly sought-after youngster.”

Fellow promotion hopefuls Norwich and Sheffield United are just behind in the market, both at 8/1 to sign the winger.

Newcastle are the current Premier League side with the shortest odds to sign James at 9/1. Bookies have even taken bets on Graham Potter’s man signing for local rivals Cardiff City, however this seems unlikely, with odds in the region of 20/1 available for that move.

James remains in contract talks with Swansea over a new deal to keep him in South Wales, with a sticking point thought to be a release clause in his deal.

If James does move this summer, Swansea will be hoping to secure a significant fee for a player who has torn defences to shreds over the past few months.

However, with 30% of all bets in the market going on Leeds, punters believe that the Yorkshire-born youngster will be heading back up north in the coming months.
