Leeds United star Stuart Dallas airs his international break frustrations

Stuart Dallas has questioned Northern Ireland's fixture schedule for the upcoming international break, arguing a triple-header is too grueling.

Dallas is set to link up with Northern Ireland after helping Leeds United to a 2-1 victory over Fulham on Friday evening.

Ian Baraclough's side face World Cup qualifiers against Italy and Bulgaria and will also play a friendly against the USA in a busy period.

Twenty-nine-year-old Dallas has been a key player for Leeds this season and, speaking to the BBC, said players need more rest periods during an international break.

He said: "People probably think that it should be no problem to you but it does take its toll on you.

"Three games in 10 days are hard because you are travelling, trying to recover, training and then you're playing the games.

"It is difficult, especially when you have been playing a lot for your club. I don't think it should be a triple-header if I'm honest, but it is what it is."

Dallas' versatility has been key for Marcelo Bielsa since the Whites' return to the top-flight, featuring at both full-back and in midfield.

When playing for Northern Ireland, Dallas has typically operated at full-back or wing-back, but the Cookstown-born player says he is happy to feature anywhere.

He said: "I've been switched about for the past two or three years so I am used to it now.

"I've played in midfield for my club in recent weeks, it's a role I am growing into and I'm becoming more comfortable the more I play there.

"I'm used to playing in full-back or wing-back and I think that is where my best performances for Northern Ireland have been.

"It's the manager's decision, we'll meet up on Sunday and I'm sure we will have a conversation about it then."
