Leeds United star sent message from US president Joe Biden ahead of World Cup tie

President of the United States of America Joe Biden has sent a message to Tyler Adams and his international teammates ahead of their World Cup last-16 tie this afternoon. USA are set to face Group A winners Netherlands at the Khalifa International Stadium as they look to seal a place in the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since 2002.

Gregg Berhalter's side sealed their passage to this stage with a 1-0 win over Iran on Tuesday, keeping their unbeaten record intact. They were also the only side in the tournament not to concede a goal from open play during the group stages, with Leeds United's Adams a big part of that.

Adams has covered the most distance and won the most tackles in the competition so far, replicating his early success for Leeds at club level on the international stage. The 23-year-old received the message from Biden via the official President of the United States' Twitter account.

Adams was videoed saying, 'Hey Mr President, heads up,' before doing a couple of kick ups and launching the ball up in the air. The ball is in then shown landing at the White House and into Biden's arms, who responded with, 'It's called soccer. Go USA! You are going to do it!'

Adams and his USA teammates will be rewarded with a quarter-final match against either Argentina or Australia with a win. Those two sides go head-to-head this evening after USA's clash with Netherlands.
