Leeds United star reveals that he used to be scared of Marcelo Bielsa - but he isn't anymore!

Kalvin Phillips has revealed he isn't scared of Marcelo Bielsa - not anymore, anyway!

The Whites' midfielder has been one of the key men for United this season, featuring 34 times for Bielsa's table-topping side.

His impact has been crucial, dictating play at the base of the midfield and breaking up opponents' attacks.

Despite having come up against some imposing players during his LUFC career to date, Phillips has revealed that his manager was the person who most struck fear into him - but not anymore.

When quizzed by the BBC's Football Focus, Phillips was asked if he a little bit afraid of the Argentine, 64, who certainly has an aura about him.

"I don't find him scary - not anymore!" admitted Phillips.

"Last year I did, a little bit.

"He's kind of like, not like a Grandad - when he laughs and when he is smiling it makes everyone happy."

There have certainly been plenty of smiles around Elland Road this season, with the club just nine games away from a return to the Premier League.

The date of their next match is, of course, unknown still as football takes a break owing to the coronavirus outbreak that has affected the world.

Whenever their quest for the Premier League does resume, Phillips wants them to finish the job they have started and return to English football's top tier.

He added: "I think given the strides we've made over the last two seasons, the only way (to improve) is to make history and get us back to the Premier League."
