Leeds United star Raphinha tipped to be a Liverpool transfer target on one condition

Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has backed his former club to sign Leeds United star Raphinha.

The Reds have been linked with the Brazilian in recent months, as have Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Raphinha joined Leeds in the summer of 2020 from French club Rennes in a £17m deal, and has certainly raised a few eyebrows since moving to Elland Road.

His performances in his debut season saw the 24-year-old linked with the likes of Liverpool and Man United, with his contract at Leeds running until 2024.

Johnson, who made 200 appearances for Liverpool, believes his old club will be looking at potentially signing Raphinha, but on one condition.

“I like him. I’m a big fan,” Johnson told BettingOdds.com.

“The style of football that Leeds play suits him, he has the shackles off and he’s technically great.

“If he did sign for Liverpool then I wouldn’t expect him to demand a place in their starting eleven, but he would certainly be one of those players on the fringe and would definitely strengthen the squad.

“He’s the sort of player that would suit Liverpool’s style of play too, so if the money was right then I’m sure he would be high on their list of targets.”
