Leeds United star Patrick Bamford quizzed on England credentials after superb Premier League run

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has humbly batted away suggestions he could be in line for an England call-up.

The Whites' number nine has been in superb form this season, scoring six goals in their opening six Premier League matches, including an impressive hat-trick away at Aston Villa last time out.

Only Heung-Min Son and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have scored more goals than Bamford this season, with the 27-year-old repaying Marcelo Bielsa's longstanding faith.

As a result, there has been some suggestions in the national media that Bamford could be contention for a place in Gareth Southgate's next England squad.

Places in attack are at a premium, with Harry Kane, Calvert-Lewin, Tammy Abraham, Marcus Rashford and Danny Ings all options up front.

Equally, the form of those five forwards, with the exception of perhaps Abraham, has been terrific this season.

As a result, Bamford believes that he has to prove his consistency in the Premier League and continue his current levels for a prolonged period of time to justify a place over the other forwards in the England squad.

That would be a dream," Bamford told talkSPORT.

"I think the important thing for me is that I've played six games, I've done quite well in those six games but it's unfair for me to compare to the other England strikers who have been doing it for a long time at this level.

"They're more worthy at the minute of being linked with contention for the England squad and the Euros. By the end of the season, if I'm still doing it and up there in the top-scorers charts, then we can talk about if I deserve a place in the England squad."
